What is an anagram?

An anagram is a word or phrase made by rearranging all the letters of another, using each letter exactly once. LISTEN and SILENT are anagrams, and so are EARTH and HEART.

The solver checks your letters against 168,352 words and shows three things: exact anagrams that use every letter, two-word anagrams built from common English words, and near anagrams that use all but one letter.

Blank tiles work too: type ? or * and the solver tries every letter in that spot.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an anagram and an unscramble?
An anagram uses all of the letters. An unscramble finds every word you can make from some or all of them. Use the word unscrambler for the full list.
Why are some words not shown as two-word anagrams?
To keep results readable, two-word anagrams only use common English words. Rare game words still appear in the exact and near anagram lists.
What is the longest word with an anagram?
In our list, the longest are 15-letter pairs such as ALGORITHMICALLY and LOGARITHMICALLY. The letters with the most anagrams are A, E, P, R and S: twelve words including SPARE, SPEAR, PEARS, PARSE, REAPS and PARES.
